I felt like I was in a movie this morning. One of those cute ’90s rom coms, like You’ve Got Mail or Serendipity.
So here’s how it started.
Once a week, I stop in Starbucks – a cute tradition in which I pay just a little too much for coffee after spending the night with my sister in the city.
Starbucks is always cozy and comfortable. But, there is something special about this particular location. The customers are regulars and know the baristas by name. One girl, as she was paying this morning, smiled huge and said, “I called Starbucks and told them… THIS is my FAVORITE location ever!!” The barista smiled and thanked this kind customer, but she wasn’t done singing their praises. “You all are just SO NICE!”
While I waited for my coffee – just a handful of minutes – at least four or five other patrons chatted with the baristas, all on a first-name basis.
When I left, iced coffee in hand, I popped in my earbuds, hit “Shuffle” on my very long, vaguely indie-themed playlist, and started my walk to the office.
I don’t know if it was the friendly coffee shop vibes, the sunshine or just enjoying spring in the city, but I really felt like I was the star of my own movie. (A very exciting film featuring a not-particularly-spectacular twenty something walking to work and having a perfectly normal Tuesday… coming soon to a theatre near you!)
Anyway, here are the songs that lifted my spirits this morning:
She And Him – Time After Time
This was the first song to play, as I basically skipped down the stairs of Starbuck’s, onto the sidewalk and into the sun. My sundress was flowing – the first time that I’ve worn a dress without tights, boots and a coat this season. I felt so feminine, refreshed and ready to start my day.
The Icarus Account – My Favorite Girl
This is just a cute, light acoustic tune. And I love cute, light acoustic tunes.
Vance Joy – Snaggletooth
Few things are better than Vance Joy, on a beach, playing the ukulele and singing. Can I please be there right now?
The Head and the Heart – Lost in my Mind
“Momma once told me / You’re already home where you feel loved / I am lost in my mind / I get lost in my mind.”
Also, super cool music video. New goal: Jam session at a bonfire. I’ll bring the ukulele.
