I am thrilled to report that I had a really wonderful week filled with kindness. I really, really hope that I can continue this lifestyle forever!
Throughout the week, I found myself as both the giver and receiver of kindness, so I’ll be sharing both. It really was a reminder of how many amazing people are in my life!
So, let’s break down what happened!
Monday was a big day – it was my first day as a full-time employee! I was hired as an Assistant Digital Associate at the agency where I interned this winter. So, I knew it would be a fab day.
In the morning, the digital team – of which I am now a member! – left these flowers and adorable card on my desk. An official, and officially amazing, welcome to the team.
My work pod saw a lot of love on Monday, because in addition to these beautiful flowers, I planted some of our own! I found a mini rose kit in the dollar section of Target and obviously was not going to pass it up. Anyway, it’s currently just a pot of dirt in a really cute pink tin. It’s (going to be) SO cute! (If I don’t kill it before it is even born.)
On a related note, how often do you guys think I should water this thing? All botany enthusiasts welcome.
I also poured some yummy (dangerous) chocolates into a tin for work friends! I may have been throwing chocolate to (at) people by the end of the week…
I woke up on Tuesday morning to some really cute notes from my mom! This is how we should start each day, don’t you think?
Then, on Tuesday night, I got in a fight with Mother Nature. While I was walking home from the train, it was frigid. I started power walking to get home more quickly, but then my lungs started to hurt – the painful result of sucking in too much cold air. The icing on the cake (you’ll get that pun in a second) was when I slipped on a sheet of ice! Flustered, I ran the rest of the way home and, in a huff, texted a few friends that we were moving south ASAP.
My evening took a complete turn, though, when I noticed that I had received a card from my Grandma. It was a valentine, both to say hello and to congratulate me on my new job! I breathed a sigh of relief and happiness, and went on with my night in a much happier mood.
I want to pause my narrative to note the significance of this moment. When you write someone an encouraging letter, you do not know what they’ll be feeling before receiving their note. In my case, I was pretty upset when I received that very kind gesture from my grandma. It made all the difference in the world!
Wednesday morning was wonderful, because my office was starting to prepare for Valentine’s Day! In the lobby, they had set up a card-making station, filled with Valentines and Sharpies. We took a moment to fill out a card, which gave me warm fuzzies for the rest of the morning.
Later in the day, I took a few moments to write a letter to a friend. This is a person who lives near me, so I see her fairly often. It may be silly that I paid 44 cents to send her a letter, when I could just wait to give it to her in person, but there is something so special about receiving a letter in the mail!
(No, I don’t live in Nevada. I’ve actually never been to Nevada. But apparently, when you go to a Chicago USPS office and say that you don’t mind which stamps they give you, well, you never know what you’re going to get!)
On Thursday, I noticed that a friend at work was going through a hard time. So, I did what I knew helped me in the same situation: I wrote her a letter!
I’m noticing that I wrote and received a lot of letters this week. I kinda love it!
So, there you have it! A week filled with notes, flowers and overall kindness.
There is a ton that I wish I could have done, so I’ll definitely be continuing this trend. Please join me! It really does make an impact.
