I particularly love this week’s Music Monday, because it features some of my favorite happy tunes. An amazing playlist for a road trip with the window down, a walk with your headphones blasting or jamming in your room singing into a hairbrush.
Considering how loudly I listen to these songs, I’m amazed that I haven’t blown out my cute little ear buds yet. (Challenge accepted?)
Really, these are just amazing tunes for a particularly happy moment. So, turn up your speakers and tune into my picks for this week’s Music Monday.
OneRepublic – Good Life
This song never fails to make me smile. The lyrics are great, it has an amazing beat and it just feels good.
Even better, the song features one of my favorite lines in music, ever. (A really huge statement, I know.) “When you’re happy like a fool, you let it take you over. When everything is out, you gotta take it in.”
Katy Perry – Roar
This song is a powerhouse. It’s a slap in the face to anyone that kept you down. “You held me down, but I got up,” Katy sings. “Already brushin’ off the dust. You hear my voice, you hear that sound. Like thunder, gonna shake the ground.”
I love the bass in this song, too. It just adds to the power.
Greg Holden – Hold on Tight
I just discovered this song (thanks to Spotify!) and I cannot stop listening to it. I am a woman obsessed. I don’t even know where to start.
Well, the beat is AMAZING. It just drives you forward. And you guys know how I feel about triplets – well, Greg rocks the triplets. (For those who weren’t born and raised music nerds, triplets are the beat he uses when belting out “Is it the person you’ve been, or the person that you’re gonna be?” in the bridge.) The instrumental break builds perfectly and has me dancing at the downbeat of the following chorus. It gives me goosebumps.
And the lyrics! “I don’t take my life for granted. I’m gonna hold on tight to what I’ve been handed.” I could write an entire blog post about this song. I probably will. I probably just did. Whatever. Just listen to it. I am in love. Okay I’m moving on now.
Echosmith – Tell Her You Love Her
Trying to think of the best way to articulate my love for this song. Hmm.
It’s the contrast of sounds. The light, articulate drums against the long, airy vocals. It’s the lyrics. “Don’t be just everything she wants. Be everything she needs. When she says she loves you, tell her you love her, too.”
It’s just all really good.
